4 Pieces You Need for 2022

December 31, 2021

2021 was a wild ride in the fashion world. We saw many trends come back around like, Y2k, Ugg boots, puffer coats, but we also saw some new trends appear like chunky scarves and corset tops. Needless to say, 2022 has some big shoes to fill and it seems like 2022 might not just fill those shoes, but outgrow them… In anticipation of this, I’ve created a guide of 4 essential pieces you’ll want in order to keep up with what’s to come.

  1. White Leather

This past year, leather has become all the rage, and it is here to stay in 2022. However, after seeing black leather, brown leather, and colorful leather be featured all over the runway, is it a surprise that white leather will be a new addition to the trend? Although it may seem bold and intimidating, stores like Aritzia, Abercrombie, and Zara have begun adding white leather as an option for their classic and popular leather pants.

2. Moon Boots

This one may be a shock to some, but it makes sense when you think about it. We have seen many old school fashion trends come back throughout the past few years, from mom jeans to scrunchies, to tube tops. Moon boots were inspired in the ’70s by astronaut fashion and (obviously) the moon landing. These boots were created for harsh winters but quickly transitioned into iconic statement pieces, which can be seen on our favorite trend starter, Paris Hilton. If Paris Hilton loves them, we have to love them. If you’re worried about how to style these iconic shoes, throw on an oversized ski jacket with leggings, and you have a trendy outfit.

3. Feathers

I’m shocked it’s taken this long for feathers to come back in the first place. We began to see feathers popping back up within the last couple of years on runways such as Oscar De Larenta. Since then, feathers have appeared as detailing on couture pieces. However, feathers have since increased in popularity and will be a significant recurring trend in 2022. Brands like Prada have continued to incorporate feathers into their pieces, as have brands like Zara and Asos. How do you transition this trend into your closet? Try a feather trim on a crop top or pair of heels, or if you’re feeling bold, try an all feather top/dress.

4. Ballet Flats/Loafers

Unlike the other three items on this list, ballet flats surprise me but like it or not, these are one of the most predicted trends for 2022. Almost every trend forecast includes ballet flats, not to mention numerous tik tok's, so if you want to try one out of the box thing to get on top of 2022 fashion, it would be these. Ballet flats first became popular by celebs like Audrey Hepburn and Brigitte Bardot, making them classic shoes., but his trend expired around 2018 when fashion began moving away from the classics. However, as we know, fashion always comes back around, especially in today’s day and age where not only do trends come back around, but they are revamped and modernized. Designers like Dior and Valentino have shown modernized ballet flats all over their runways; with classic designs and modern styles, this trend is starting to make sense. However, I also included loafers in the title because ballet flats are being forecasted due to the popularity of loafers in the past year. So if ballet flats are just not working for you, go for a nice pair of platform loafers instead.
